Clinical Supervision for Associate Counselors in Washington State.

In-person & Online Supervision in WA State

Whether you just graduated, or you’ve been an associate for some time, congrats on where you’re at in your career! You’re excited for new opportunities and a chance to find a good-fit supervisor. You want someone who can help you manage legal and ethical issues in clinical work while also helping you build a practice.

Clinical Work

You’re looking for a supervisor who can offer different perspectives on case consultation while ultimately letting you drive the direction of your clinical work. You’d prefer support in the form of open-ended questions and thoughtful feedback as opposed to being told what to do. You want someone who stays up to date on WA law and feels confident in navigating ethical and legal issues with you. You prefer someone who follows the rules but doesn’t insight anxiety or pressure around them; someone who can be casual and compassionate while being challenging and mindful. You work best with someone who doesn’t micromanage but also holds you accountable. A main focus in your clinical work is social justice and inclusion (or you’d at least like to learn how to focus on this) and you need a supervisor who can speak to those topics. If you’re not sure what specialties you prefer of your supervisor, you at least want someone who has a variety of niches.

Practice Building

You’re looking for a supervisor who shows up authentically and professionally. You’d like support in building a practice. You wish to feel confident in your business decisions without guilt. You’d like a supervisor who has built their own practice and can speak to the ups and downs of that process. Exploring what it takes to create a business feels overwhelming and you want someone who can empathize with that. Perhaps you’ve been told that you shouldn’t start a practice or that you won’t be profitable. You don’t want that narrative to be true and need someone who can coach you through the mindset challenges of being a business owner. You’re a little worried about balancing the business side and the client side of your work – one feels like the head side and one feels like the heart – and your supervisor needs to support you in both. You also want to incorporate social justice and inclusive practices within your business, so your supervisor needs to be well-versed in this process. Bonus points if they’ve walked the walk themselves.

Hi! I’m Katie a licensed mental health counselor in Federal Way, WA. I offer supervision to new and seasoned associate-level therapists. My ultimate goal for you is to find your clinical and business identity so that you feel confident in your skills and ability to make ethical and legal decisions with clients and in your practice. If we work together you can expect that we will meet weekly to start and as you grow in confidence and competence, we can explore the option of biweekly.

Client care is most important so I take supervision seriously as we both ensure your clients don’t face harm, bias, or feel stuck in treatment that isn’t a good fit. We will always check in on ethical and legal considerations to make sure you and your clients are protected. I absolutely love helping clinicians build a practice. It can be a tough and uncomfortable process but there’s something so cool in taking a chance on yourself and seeing the benefits of your hard work. I enjoy being alongside you in that journey. I tend to nerd-out on private practice tools and resources so I can promise I am a wealth of information…you can tell me to chill out if it’s too much!

Whether this is your first time looking for a supervisor, or you haven’t had the best of luck with previous supervisors, I’m here to support you completely. I don’t take mentoring therapists lightly and ask that we engage in honest and open communication if you’re not getting the supervision you need. Just like with clients, the process only works if we are a good fit.
