About Your Federal Way Therapist

Katie Gilbertson, LMHC

Counseling in Federal Way, WA & online in Washington State

You’ve been feeling alone in your struggles. You’re not quite sure if therapy is the answer, but you know something has to change. You’re tired of feeling anxious, like no matter how much you try to please others or create success in your life, you still don’t feel good enough. Somedays you can cope well by masking your emotions and appear “fine” to others. But during the hardest of days you find yourself hating your body, shaming your choices, isolating from loved ones, struggling to sleep or eat, constantly worried about what others think of you, neglecting your boundaries, and experiencing a general sense of panic. You’re ready to put the hard days behind you.

I’m a queer therapist based in Washington State, and I specialize in helping chronic people-pleasers who are burnt out, fed up, and ready to reclaim their lives. I work with millennial women, queer folks, and non-binary individuals navigating ADHD, anxiety, toxic relationships, body image issues, and identity struggles.

I know firsthand that being a people-pleaser isn’t just about being “nice.” It’s a survival strategy. Maybe you grew up in an environment where being agreeable kept the peace. Maybe you learned early on that your needs weren’t as important as keeping others happy. And if you’re neuro-spicy, chances are you’ve spent a lot of energy masking your true self, trying to meet impossible standards, and beating yourself up when you fall short.

Here’s the thing, you can unlearn these patterns. You can show up for yourself without fear, guilt, or shame. And no, it doesn’t mean you have to stop caring about others or lose your empathy.

Therapy can aid in healing that part of you that needs affirmation and acceptance, that still thinks you’re in survival mode. I was born to help people like yourself overcome shame and self-doubt and live a more peaceful, fulfilling life. Let’s work together!
